Paul Hill and Maria Falconer
Exhibitions and a weekend Workshop

What a double treat!

From 24 March for 12 weeks we are in for a treat from Professor Paul Hill and Maria Falconer.

Paul is exhibiting "Ludlow in the 1960s" and his project "Corridor of Uncertainty".

Maria is exhibiting "Performing for the Camera", combining "Keep Her Unnoticed" and Maria’s dance work.

Paul and Maria will then exhibit "ANON", photographs taken while they volunteered with refugees in Greece.

Also, they will run a workshop in Ludlow called "Fast and Furious". It starts on the evening of Friday 20 April and runs through Saturday and Sunday, 21/22 April. It is for experienced photographers and is designed to help participants develop new skills and a more inventive approach to image making. The weekend is packed with 8 mini projects devised to stimulate imagination, ingenuity and creative vision.

Paul Hill spent his early years in Ludlow. He is one of the UK's most influential photographers and workshop leaders. He has published books and exhibited all over the world. A photo-journalist before concentrating on his own personal projects, he was awarded an MBE for services to photography and a Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society.

Maria Falconer is a commercial photographer who specializes in performing arts images. She holds an MA in Photographic Studies, is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and has been published in The Guardian, The Times and The Scotsman.

Together, they offer contemporary photography workshops designed to inspire and educate, and to develop creative seeing and technical abilities.

the Photo Space Charity

We announced on 23 September that we are setting up a charity to help people with mental health, physical and age-related difficulties. This came about because of many personal stories about the therapeutic benefit of photography on people's lives. Photography is a lifeline for many who need something to occupy them, to focus the mind, to get out of the house, to meet others and to get pleasure from a rewarding hobby.

The delay in getting the charity up and running is because of a large backlog of work at the Charity Commission with current waiting times around 4 months. We are making plans in the meantime and more information will appear in our newsletter. If you are interested in taking part please contact us. Thank you.

Prize Winners

MARTIN PARR entertained a packed house at Ludlow Assembly Rooms on Saturday 23 September 2017. He talked about his work and career, he was interviewed on stage by Jim Hawkins of BBC Radio Shropshire, and he awarded prizes to ten winners he had chosen from over 300 entries to our 'Social Documentary' Photography Competition.

Colin Howard won the first prize, a £1,000 Fujifilm X-T20 camera system sponsored by LCE, Hereford, and Fujifilm.

All ten winning images and other photos of the event can be seen here.
