"25 Years of Press Photography in and around Ludlow and the Marches"
Opening mid-day, Saturday 30 November and continuing into 2020, we are exhibiting a treat for the people of Ludlow and the Marches, and wider afield.
Andy Compton is known by many in Ludlow, Herefordshire and mid-Wales, as our genial and popping-up-everywhere press photographer.
In cooperation with the Shropshire Star (Midland News Association) we are exhibiting 25 years of Andy’s press photography in and around Ludlow and the Marches. This will spark memories and debate, and will be accompanied by workshops and events to involve local people.
Andy Compton has spent 28 years as a professional press photographer working on newspapers in Shropshire, Herefordshire and mid Wales.
Along with local news, Andy has covered events further afield in the UK and in Europe, including European Football Cup ties, boxing and working with the military in Cyprus.
His varied career started as a freelance working for the Mid Wales Journal in the 1980's. He was told at the time by an industry professional that he would never be able to be a full-time photographer as the competition was too tough and the market was hard to break into.
Andy worked hard, stuck with it and has gained many professional accolades and features in photography magazines.
He enjoys meeting people and the varied projects the career of a press photographer can bring.
Andy now freelances and still loves to take photographs in his spare time. In 2001 he found himself a single parent, bringing up three children, which he is very proud of. He is now married to Mid Wales Journal reporter Karen Compton.
