Our Charity - update 3 March 2018

At the end of September 2017 we announced our intention to form a charity. It's aim -

to use photography to help people recovering from mental or physical illness and to help them keep well.

Relevant, but tiresome, bureaucracy followed and we continue to wait for a registration number while the Charity Commission works through its backlog.

Meanwhile we have a very good relationship with MIND, Hereford, and have agreed two joint activities to roll the ball, start the engine and leave the station. So, the charity is on the move!

The first activity is driven by the Photography Show at the NEC, Birmingham, 17-20 March. We are attending and will distribute a ‘flyer’, jointly-branded with MIND, to announce our charity and our link with MIND, and to seek contact from those exhibitors interested in supporting a photography-related charity as part of their social responsibility agenda. The aim is to spread awareness and to collect contact details for people at businesses who may support us with equipment and sponsorship.

The second is a project. MIND is providing premises and selecting people who we will work with to take photographs. The aim is for a selection to be exhibited in Ledbury as part of the Ledbury Poetry Festival, 2018 (29 June to 8 July). The photographs will be shown alongside poetry chosen to complement the images.

A number of supporters of the Photo Space have said they want to help as volunteers. We have e-mailed them and others to set up a meeting at the Photo Space to give more detail and to answer questions. A provisional date is 10-11:30am on Wednesday, 21 March

A big thank you to the many who have donated cameras and  equipment and supported our efforts so far. If anyone reading this and living in south Shropshire or north Herefordshire is interested in more information about volunteering, please contact us.
