Who can take part
The competition is open to individual photographers who live, or are based, within 30 miles of our postcode, SY8 1AT, as the crow flies.
Entrants and winners from previous years are not excluded.
What work can be entered
The images should have been taken within the twelve months ending 15 January 2019.
Colour, black & white, panorama and scans from film are all eligible.
By submitting images to the Competition, you confirm that:
a) they are entirely your original work;
b) you own the copyright and any other intellectual property rights for each image;
c) you will indemnify us against any claims by any third parties for failure to comply with any usage or copyright rights;
d) the images do not breach any laws.
Digital manipulation of an image is not permitted and will be grounds for eliminating the image from the competition. You should not, for example, move or remove objects or people, or copy in the sky from another image. Digital adjustments including dodging and burning, changes to tone and contrast and cropping are allowed, as are stitched panoramas and focus stacking.
We reserve the right to remove any images that we, in our absolute discretion, consider may breach or contravene laws of public decency or may bring the photographer, the Competition or us into disrepute.
How to submit entries
Up to 5 digital images (for projection) can be submitted per entrant.
Image files must be jpeg, 72ppi with maximum 1600 pixels wide by 1200 pixels. Portrait images should be 1200 pixels high.
Please complete the online entry form, which includes a facility to upload the images to us.
A non-returnable entry fee of £5.00 is charged to help towards the cost of the competition and exhibition. Payment is made by card or PayPal as the entry form is completed.
The form and images must be with us by mid-day on Saturday 19 January.
The judging and winning process
Seven photographers will be chosen by our selection panel. The seven winners will be announced by Newsletter and on our website by 5pm on Monday, 21 January.
Each of the seven winners will be offered a wall of the gallery to display their work.
The work will be hung by the winning photographers on any of these days: 5, 6 or 7 February. If the winners have time to frame their work, fine. If not, work can be hung as loose prints or on mounts. The competition is not about frames; it is about good photography.
The exhibition opens to the public at 10am on Saturday, 9 February, and closes at 5pm on Saturday, 9 March. It is open Wednesday to Saturday, 10am - 5pm.
Visitors to the exhibition are invited to vote for their favourite photographer. The overall winner will be announced at mid-day on Monday, 11 March, and will be offered a one-person exhibition at the Photo Space.
The winning photographers may choose which of their work to exhibit. It does not have to be the exact same work entered for the competition. This choice is to allow each photographer to make best use of the gallery wall available to them.
All work exhibited should be for sale. We will take a commission on sales, details to be discussed with the winning photographers.
The work brought for hanging should be ready to hang - mounted, framed (if required) and strung or with eyelets for our hanging system.
With the exception of the images of the seven winning photographers, all images sent to us will be deleted on Monday 11 March.
The seven winning photographers agree to grant us a non-exclusive right to reproduce, publish or exhibit, on any media, the images for any purpose connected with the Competition. This may include, but is not limited to:
a) storage on a secure web browser for judging purposes;
b) display on our website;
c) use in newsletters, press releases, promotional and marketing materials, both print and digital;
d) use on social media used by us.
Copyright of each image is retained by its respective photographer.
Every care will be taken with entries hung for the exhibition but we cannot accept liablility for any loss, damage, injury or disappointment incurred as a result of participation in, or other involvement with, the Competition.
